Gokarna Forest Resort Deer and Bird Watching is a wonderful wildlife experience and rejuvenation in the serenity of nature near Kathmandu. Almost all of the tourists seem to dislike Kathmandu. Because it is noisy and dusty, and complain there is nothing to do and say one day is enough time there.
In Thamel, everyone appears to visit the same three or four locations. They perceive Thamel city as a whole Kathmandu. But there is so much more to Kathmandu than a few well-known places that are overrun with tourists. There are countless things to see in Kathmandu. Among them, staying in Gokarna Forest and enjoying the resort’s activities is one of the most exciting and reviving experiences in Kathmandu.
Only 10 kilometers from the bustle of Kathmandu, the Gokarna Forest Resort offers a tranquil escape into nature. The resort lies in the tranquil Gokarna forest. The forest is a century-old protected sanctuary. It was once a private hunting ground for the former Nepalese royals. With its architectural fusion of Malla and Rana royal palaces, the main resort complex has its roots in rich historical and cultural significance. Traveling through this resort allows one to fully appreciate the royal family’s lifestyle.
If you are a nature lover and want to stay away from the crowds of the cities, this is the place you must visit and stay. Without a doubt, it is the perfect place to feel the peace and tranquility of being close to nature. Every nature lover and wildlife enthusiast will surely love to stay in this heavenly peaceful place. The resort’s quiet, natural, and serene setting makes it a great haven for relaxation and pleasure.
During your stay in the resort, you can fully engage in a lot of recreational activities. Like forest walks, bird watching, golf, spa treatments, yoga retreats, swimming, cycling, and a cart tour. You can also simply relax and read your favorite book while having a drink in the restaurant. Enjoy the view of the vibrant golf grounds, forest and deer grazing, and playful monkey jumping around.
Gokarna Forest Resort is large and spacious spreading over the area of a vast 470-acre forest. The forest provides shelter to various birds and animals including spotted deer, barking deer, and monkeys. All of which are easily visible from the resort grounds and during the hike inside the forest. Without a doubt, it is the nearest place in Kathmandu to spot spotted deer and for bird watching. Occasionally, you may spot the jackals and leopards in the forest.
The Gokarna Forest Resort is a birdwatcher's paradise, home to more than 60 different species. Within the protected forest, birdwatchers can see a variety of exotic species in their natural habitats. In the months of winter, migratory birds are also spotable in the Bagmati and Manohara Rivers which are near the resort itself. In addition to jungle walks and birding inside the forest, you can extend your stay and go birding in these rivers and hiking in one of the oldest temples of Nepal, Changu Narayan in a day. The hiking gives you an experience of the countryside's daily lifestyle, and see farmers working in the open cultivating farmlands.

I really wanted to find a local company who could make a personalised itinerary for my husband and I to do red panda trekking and a safari in Bardia National Park to see tigers (among other things). I would highly recommend Tiger Encounter for any trip to Nepal, but especially if you’re looking to encounter wildlife.
We recently returned from a 2 week private wildlife trekking and safari tour with Tiger Encounter, and couldn’t recommend them highly enough. We found them through a Google search and we are so glad that we did – we were so impressed! Tiger Encounter really offer such a personalised service and clearly care about their travellers.
Excellent safari in Chitwan and Bardia. Very professional company and we were looked after really well. Communication was easy and fast response. The guides on the safaris were brilliant and the accommodation was excellent. Can’t rate them highly enough.
I’ve been to 28 different countries and countless safaris over the world- let me tell you that this is the standard for every other safari I’ve been on since! The attention to detail, the absolute love and care of the guides, and the tour operator’s genuine wish for you to have the best experience possible made this one of the most amazing tours/safaris I’ve been on. It was just as amazing to meet the locals and meet the Tharu people as it was to see the rhino and to be close up with an elephant!! (And That tiger that kept in front of our raft to cross the river!!) As an experienced traveler, take my word that you will have a genuinely wild and carefree adventure!!!???
Had the most wonderful and life changing experience with Tiger Encounter. I had the wonderful opportunity to meet Mr. Sharma (owner) who had accompanied me as my guide throughout my adventure. They had planned everything so well and truly make you feel like family. Be it every step of the way from jeep safari, jungle walk, canoe ride, trek through the jungle, mountain trek Mr. Sharma is truly amazing guide, photographer and wonderful motivator. It goes without saying that your guide is your doorway to experiencing everything about the beautiful country you visit. Be it food, shopping, adventure or pleasure. I truly loved every moment of my time…and hope to return to this beautiful country with Tiger Encounter to many more adventures and celebrating a wonderful friendship. Hop you all have as amazing adventures and journeys with them. ?
