Presently, Langtang National Park is the world’s red panda conservation region. It is one of Nepal’s most important red panda habitats. The park is home to 46 species of animals. Including the elusive and endangered Red Panda and Snow Leopard and other wildlife. These endangered species are proof of the park’s healthy Himalayan environment just under their presence.
Red Panda Tracking Trek in Langtang National Park is a wildlife safari tour in the nearest national park to Kathmandu. Langtang National Park is the first mountainous national park in the central Himalayan highlands of Nepal. And the first national park in Nepal to save the Snow Leopard. The park is part of the Sacred Himalayan Landscape which is rich in flora and fauna. The park was established in 1970-71 AD to conserve the flora and fauna of the Langtang region. In fact, it is the second largest national park of Nepal with an area of 1710 sq. km. It covers 3 districts, including 7% of Nuwakot, 36% of Sindhupalchowk, and 57% of Rasuwa. Despite the Nuwakot district covering only a few parts of the park, the district has the highest number of red pandas and more sightings than the Sindhupalchowk and Rasuwa districts.
The red panda is the primary mammal we are looking for. For the same reason, we will be tracking the red panda trails in the core areas explored by our team in the Langtang National Park.
We will also likely have encounters with many other incredible wildlife experiences such as those with the Himalayan tahr, wild boar, Ghoral, grey langur monkeys, Himalayan brown bears, Musk deer, etc. With over 300 different bird species identified in the area including the Danphe (Nepal’s national bird), Himalayan monal, satyr tragopan, the Impeyan pheasant, ibis bill, snow partridge, and red-horned pheasant, it is also a birder’s paradise.
Furthermore, get a glimpse of a different Hyolmo (Helambu Sherpa) culture that distinguishes them from other sherpas. Hyolmo people live mostly in the upper parts of Nuwakot and Sindhupalchowk districts in the Helambu region and in some other districts too. Helambu trek is a religiously, culturally, and naturally beautiful trek in Nepal. It ranks as the third choice for trekkers coming to Nepal. The trek lies in the first national park of Nepal, i.e. Langtang National Park. It’s close to the capital city Kathmandu.
The park is reachable within one day and there is a high possibility of spotting red panda in a short period with the assistance of local trackers and forest guardians.
Red Panda Encounter in Langtang National Park trip itineraries are customisable; according to your choice & the number of days you want to stay. If you have extra time you can extend the days and embark on 10 days red panda tracking trek in the Langtang National Park as well.

The best time to track red pandas in Nepal:
The best times to spot red pandas in the wild are during the spring (mid-March to mid-May) and autumn (October to November) in the central Himalayan foothills. Red pandas are less visible in the hot summer when temperatures exceed 25C, as they seek refuge in tree hollows and shaded areas. The monsoon season brings heavy rainfall, making forested hills risky to navigate and reducing sightings. To increase chances of observation, we travel in the cooler spring and autumn, when red pandas are more active, sunbathing on large branches in the morning and throughout the day.
Fitness levels required:
A moderate level of fitness or some experience in hill walking is recommended for this tour, as it primarily takes place at altitudes ranging from 9,800ft to 13,000ft. It's important to note that all trekking is conducted at your own pace, with the longest continuous walks lasting around an hour, and most typically being less than an hour.

I really wanted to find a local company who could make a personalised itinerary for my husband and I to do red panda trekking and a safari in Bardia National Park to see tigers (among other things). I would highly recommend Tiger Encounter for any trip to Nepal, but especially if you’re looking to encounter wildlife.
We recently returned from a 2 week private wildlife trekking and safari tour with Tiger Encounter, and couldn’t recommend them highly enough. We found them through a Google search and we are so glad that we did – we were so impressed! Tiger Encounter really offer such a personalised service and clearly care about their travellers.
Excellent safari in Chitwan and Bardia. Very professional company and we were looked after really well. Communication was easy and fast response. The guides on the safaris were brilliant and the accommodation was excellent. Can’t rate them highly enough.
I’ve been to 28 different countries and countless safaris over the world- let me tell you that this is the standard for every other safari I’ve been on since! The attention to detail, the absolute love and care of the guides, and the tour operator’s genuine wish for you to have the best experience possible made this one of the most amazing tours/safaris I’ve been on. It was just as amazing to meet the locals and meet the Tharu people as it was to see the rhino and to be close up with an elephant!! (And That tiger that kept in front of our raft to cross the river!!) As an experienced traveler, take my word that you will have a genuinely wild and carefree adventure!!!🤩🥳🥳
Had the most wonderful and life changing experience with Tiger Encounter. I had the wonderful opportunity to meet Mr. Sharma (owner) who had accompanied me as my guide throughout my adventure. They had planned everything so well and truly make you feel like family. Be it every step of the way from jeep safari, jungle walk, canoe ride, trek through the jungle, mountain trek Mr. Sharma is truly amazing guide, photographer and wonderful motivator. It goes without saying that your guide is your doorway to experiencing everything about the beautiful country you visit. Be it food, shopping, adventure or pleasure. I truly loved every moment of my time…and hope to return to this beautiful country with Tiger Encounter to many more adventures and celebrating a wonderful friendship. Hop you all have as amazing adventures and journeys with them. 🌟
