UNESCO World Heritage Sites

World Heritage Sites are the places selected by UNESCO (United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization) for their cultural, historical, scientific and other significance as important for the interest of humankind. These places are legally protected by international treaties.

As we all know ten places of Nepal are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, among them eight are cultural and two are natural mixed sites. To enter these sites entry permits must be obtained and this can be done at the entry points of the sites. The entry fees of these World Heritage Sites are mentioned in detail for your reference.

Protected areas

The Terai, mid-hills and high mountains of Nepal covered with forested lands include 36 types of vegetation, 1120 varieties of non-flowering plants, 5160 varieties of flowering plants, 181 mammals, 844 birds, 100 reptiles, 43 amphibian, 185 freshwater fish and 645 butterfly species. Recognizing this enormity of vast biodiversity the Nepalese government has been working on the establishment of protected areas and so far succeeded in establishing thirteen national parks, one wildlife reserve, six conservation areas and ten Ramsar sites at three different ecological zones of Nepal. The entry permit for these protected areas can be obtained at the entry point the fees are listed below.

Restricted Areas

There are certain areas in Nepal that are heavily restricted in order to protect the natural beauty, unique cultural heritage, and environment. One must make special arrangements and obtain restricted area permits from government agencies to visit such places.
