Number of Tigers in Nepal 2022, Tiger population reaches 355 in Nepal

Nepal is currently recognized as the first nation to double its Tiger population, which is going from 121 to 355 adult tigers.

When the number of wild tigers reached an all-time low, twelve years ago, the future appeared dismal. The species had fallen into an apparent downward spiral due to habitat degradation, poaching, and other threats.

The International Tiger Day on 29th July 2022 was held in Kathmandu, and the result new number of Tigers was announced by the country’s prime minister.

The Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation (DNPWC), the Department of Forests and Soil Conservation (DoFSC) of the Ministry of Forests and Environment conducted Nepal’s fourth tiger and prey survey, which began in December of last year. Since 2009, periodic evaluations of tigers have been carried out every four years. According to the first, second, and third nationwide assessments conducted in 2009, 2013, and 2018, there were, respectively, 121, 198, and 235 tigers.

Royal Bengal Tiger, the largest of all Asian big cats is one of the tourist attractions of Nepal specially Bardia National ParkΒ andΒ Chitwan National Park. They can be differentiated easily because of their strips which are unique. The weight of males ranges from 180 to 258 kg (397 to 569 lb). And, while that of the females ranges from 100 to 160 kg (220 to 350 lb). Males have an average total length of 270 to 310 cm (110 to 120 in) including the tail; while females measure 240 to 265 cm (94 to 104 in) on average.
