The Tiger Conservation Unit, Chitwan-Parsa-Valmiki, comprises two national parks in Nepal; and one in India, with a total area of 3549 km2. This area consists of large patches of alluvial grasslands and dense sub-tropical forests suitable for tigers.

Chitwan National Park is designated as a UNESCO natural heritage site. Evidently, the park alone houses 128 Royal Bengal Tigers according to a national survey in 2022. For the same reason, it is the largest playground for tigers in Nepal. So, it is the perfect destination after Bardia National Park for tiger tracking in Nepal.

The best time to visit the park is from September to November and March to April. For encountering tigers along with other wildlife. During this time, the jungle is less dense making the clear visibility of the surrounding areas. The wildlife roaming freely in the wild is visible.

Namaste! Welcome to Nepal to discover, explore, and experience the tranquil beauty and the warm hospitality of the Nepalese. Flying through the beautiful mountain views and verdant hills, varied terrains, and plains, you will land at the Tribhuvan International Airport of Nepal. At the airport, you will meet one of our team members holding a placard with your name or office name, who will greet you and transfer you to the hotel in Thamel.

Once checked in at the hotel, unpack and unwind. Along with the refreshment welcome drink, a briefing will be provided about the tour in the following days. In the evening, you can stroll around the hippest and most happening area of  Thamel, Kathmandu’s tourist hub. Here you can find restaurants with a variety of cuisine to dine at and enjoy the first meal of your choice.

Fly (25 minutes) from Kathmandu to Bharatpur. Arrive at the hotel in Megauli or Sauraha, which is 32 K.M. from the main highway in Bharatpur. Upon arrival, a welcome drink is served, and there will be a short briefing on the program and our facilities, and rooms will be assigned.

In the afternoon, floating downstream the Rapti River towards the western boundary of the park formed by Himalayan Narayani, a boat safari will be arranged for the evening time, offering our unique sundowner experience at the confluence point.

The quest of watching the Royal Bengal Tigers without them knowing that they are being watched begins from this day. The experienced guides will escort you to the places where the tigers are mostly found. From various watchtowers inside the national park, you will be able to see over the grasslands and possibly spot the tigers. While a herd or a single tiger walk out of the long grasses for a drink at the river.

This day of the journey will be a thrilling experience since you will be driving or walking to different tiger territories. Places like “Rapti Machan, “Tinkune”, “Dumre Check Post,” and “Bhallori” can be covered on foot and are famous tiger tracking spots of Chitwan National Park.  The packed lunch will be served for this day so you can focus on wildlife tracking all day long.

(Note: Jeep Safari is prohibited during monsoon season by the park authorities from June-September, and in some seasons it can prolong till September)

One more day dedicated to tracking the Royal Bengal Tigers. On this day, you will be waiting for a glimpse of these majestic creatures in different locations like Tamor Lake, Lamital, Kata & Dumre Checkpost.

If we are unable to spot the tiger on day 3 and day 4, then we will repeat the activity in a location with the highest possibility. However, if you get lucky enough to get a sight of the magnificent beast in both attempts, then you can have a free day or other jungle activities.

Lunch will be served for this day so you can focus on wildlife tracking all day long. Dinner at the resort.

Boat Safari (Morning): Wake-up call followed by Tea/Coffee. Can experience the morning boat safari for about 1 hour, floating downstream along the Rapti River towards the western boundary of the park, formed by the Himalayan Narayani.

Breakfast at the resort, by the Pool, or by the River (as per the present season/condition). Back to the lodge and relax by the pool for the rest of the late afternoon, or use the spa/couples massage room facility at the lodge.

Short Village Walk: A visit around the village on foot to experience the daily life of the village people in the company of an experienced communicator to enhance knowledge on the life of Tharu people. Duration – approx. -2 Hours

    What to Bring

    1. Neutral colored clothing is recommended.
    2. Light clothing is needed for the daytime, with a sweater and warm jacket for the evenings from November to March.
    3. Pants / Trousers are recommended for safari and jungle walks.
    4. Comfortable walking shoes, sun hats, sunglasses, etc. are essential.
    5. Insect repellent and personal medical requirements should be carried.
    6. It is highly recommended to travel light with only one small suitcase or duffle bag.
    7. During the warmer months, swimming suits are recommended.
    8. A small flashlight is recommended.
    9. Binoculars add greatly to your enjoyment for bird and wildlife viewing.

    Note: Evening Entertainment of Tharu Cultural dance and a PowerPoint Presentation about CNP and flora and fauna by an expert Naturalist will be offered for those staying on the Jungle Plan.

    Note: During monsoons (mid-June / July to October end), Jeep safaris are not conducted by park authorities. Alternate activities are provided during this period.

    Tipping:

    Tipping is not included in the salaries of your guides, driver, or crew, but it is greatly appreciated. In Nepalese culture, tips are accepted and are a lovely way of saying thank you (“Dhanyabada”) for good service. Normally, the tips are offered at the end of the tour, and this is best done as a group. Most groups will give the tips on the last day of the tour.

    Snow Leopard Expedition in Nepal

    I have traveled to many places in pursuit of photographing endangered species, and surprisingly, I did not have any images of the Bengal tiger. Many of my friends visited India for tiger safaris, but the crowded and hectic national parks discouraged me. After watching a BBC Planet Earth documentary, I discovered that Bengal tigers also exist in Nepal. Following many email exchanges with different tour operators in Nepal, I chose Tiger Encounter — and I am very happy that I made the right decision.

    Ghanshyam was extremely flexible with my itinerary. I had to change my plans at least twice, and he accommodated every adjustment without hesitation or even a hint of frustration.
